U-Go Girl

Just a quick one today, of the late great U-Go Girl.

Strange but true-- just after I started sketching this out over lunch, I overheard a little girl nearby introduce herself to someone as "Edie"~ (U-GG's 'real name')

6-2-Cannonball Here's a little sketch I did of one of my favorite Marvel mutants, Cannonball. When I was younger, I always liked the fact that an awkward country kid could be in the X-Men. Plus I think his power would be awesome to have-- to not just fly, but fly at this breakneck outta control speed!

~ Props to the amazing Chris Bachalo on designing this killer new costume for recent issues. Fun stuff! ~

Wonder Woman

I'm trying to add some superhero drawings to my repertoire. Here's one of Wonder Woman accosting a no-good bank robber and squeezing the truth outta him. After I get a bunch of these, I'll go back and do more finished versions of some of them.

More May Stuff

Here's some more of my recent sketchbook stuff.

I've been totally swamped for the last... well, last couple months I haven't found a whole lot of time to post. I just finished up a class I was taking today, so I'm going to try and replace that with being a little more present here.

Here's some sketches I've done recently. Thanks for waitin' up!

Drew Nightcrawler from the X-Men as a warmup today. Hoping to finish this up for a drawing jam over at

Warmup 4/3- Motorcycles

Here's a few quick sketches of motorcycles I did during a plane trip on Monday.

Warmup 3/23- Waiting Room

Warmup-3-22Drove a friend to the doctor this morning and found the waiting room to be full of great subject matter. It's funny how the way we relate to each other evolves in our later years... and evidently everyone wears workout clothes.

Warmup 3/21- Faces

Back at it today with some face sketches in ballpoint pen.

Expressive Walks

Now I'm getting warmed up a little bit; these sketches had a nice flow to them. The lady on bottom didn't look a whole lot like that, but I like who she morphed into.

I had to give a presentation in class and I think my brain was trying to convince me that I would have a better time drawing instead. There was a time when I didn't mind getting in front of people, but something got lost since then... then again, maybe there's something in the air. These folks don't look like they were having the greatest day either.

Sport Plane

Today's sketch is a FA-200 Sport Plane from a book called "The Japan of Today", circa 1970.

Warmup 3/2- More People

Did some more drawings of people today. These were all done by taking a only a quick glance at the person, then looking back for more details after I'd sketched most of it out.
What I'm trying to work on when I draw people is to go beyond just "see it, draw it" and really refine the drawing down to a character. -- to basically record my impression of the person in a very defined way. The result may or may not be accurate but it presents itself that way.

Today's sketches aren't a terribly good example in my eyes-- sometimes it just falls flat --but I think I get that result more often than I used to.

Warmup 2/23- Loud Intellectual

I'm taking a couple of early classes on Tuesdays & Thursdays, and get a small break in between to go sit in the cafeteria and draw people. This guy was very generously sharing his thoughts, not only with the guy sitting next to him, but everyone else in our half of the room too.

Afterwards I noticed a little unintentional zooming in around his face... subconciously influenced by his volume?

Favorite Sketches

Been taking an extended break from my sketchblog, to put together my portfolio site, move, start on a comic, and take care of a million other things that have come up... Since I haven't posted in a while, I thought I'd put up some of my favorite sketches from the last couple months. Enjoy!
